As a horticulturist and designer at High Glen Gardens in Frederick, Maryland, one of my responsibilities was designing and installing seasonal container gardens around the estate. Certain containers had specific color scheme requirements, while others simply harmonized with the gardens nearby.
In March and April, I welcomed spring with colorful combinations of flowers that included tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, pansies, cape daisies, and sweet alyssum. As the bulbs faded, I replaced them with other colorful spring annuals.
