While working as a horticulturist and designer at High Glen Gardens in Frederick, Maryland, I created floral arrangements for the house as well as special events and parties. The majority of the material I used was cut from the gardens or grown in the on-site greenhouse.
The Hoe-Down was a country-themed party held in a historic barn located on the estate. The event included dinner, drinks, and square dancing. Country-themed attire was encouraged, included cowboy hats and boots, flannel, plaid, and denim. The flower arrangements for the event were casual, natural, and simple. Sunflowers were specifically requested. The color scheme was mostly yellow and white, with hints of red.
